As 2025 begins, Southland International Trucks Ltd. celebrates a major milestone, 40 years of continuous operation in Lethbridge, a first for any locally owned truck dealership in Lethbridge. Founded by George Kirkham in 1985, the company has grown from a small shop into a cornerstone of the community.
Southland’s story isn’t just one of business success—it’s also one of community, education, and commitment to the next generation. Over the years, George has forged a partnership with Lethbridge Polytechnic, investing in the future of heavy-duty tech education and others. Through cash donations, George helped the school’s apprenticeship program.
The Executive Leadership Team of Lethbridge Polytechnic paid a special visit to honor Southland’s 40th anniversary. Led by Dr. Brad Donaldson, CEO and President included Tracy Holt, VP Finance and CFO and joined by Sheldon Anderson, Dean of the Centre for Trades and Technologies, the team celebrated George’s four-decade journey. Bringing subs and desserts, including a special 40-year cake!
George gave them a full tour of the Southland facility, including a tour of the Kirkham International Motor Truck Collection.
